Warning: There seems to be some confusion about this Thomas Dowdy being the same person as Thomas Dowdy of Chatham NC who died 1859 and whose wife was Sarah ?Riddle. It has been stated in some research that Thomas Dowdy of Chatham was buried in Perry. Both Thomas Dowdys are listed in Chatham NC and Perry TN 1850 censuses. They are not the same person.

Coon Creek Bap Church lists her as Fanny. Is this source confusing Sarah ?Riddle, wife of Thomas Dowdy of Chatham in adding the name "Sarah"?)

Cane Creek. Billy selected a knoll on the farm which over looks the valley of Cane Creek, for the WARREN Cemetery. A three foot rock wall surrounds the plot. In his will Billy left each of his four sons a farm valued at $2,000.00 and six daughters were given $2,000.00 each. Military service: Bet. 1864 - 1865, 2ndTn. Mtd Infantry Comp. F- Union Army. About 1900 Billy and Serena Cathrine Dowdy WARREN bought a 200 acre farm on lower Cane Creek for $975.00. The old two story home nearing a hundred years still stands according to his grandson Charles M. WARREN Jr. of Clarksville, Tn.

Mary Dowdy vs. Thomas Dowdy

Joseph Dowdy departed this life in ___ intestate leaving a widow Susan Dowdy and the following married children: Nancy m. Calvin Barber, Sarah m. Wm Campbell, Jane m. Abner Smith, Elizabeth m. Jas Campbell, Rebecca m. Banister Tally. Thomas Dowdy, Jerimiah Dowdy, William Dowdy, Martha Dowdy and James W. Dowdy state that Joseph Dowdy possessed land. That widow Susan intermarried with one Simeon Campbell. That dower was assigned her by Cir. Ct. . Sold land to Jordan Dowdy who was husband of petitioner and father of Wm T., Martha J, Anderson E. Serena C. and Jordan A. Dowdy. ...Jordan Dowdy dies in the year 1852 with a will and since the death, she (Mary) has purchased the interest in sd land of Hubbard Quarles and Mary Quarles and takes title when Mary reaches 21. She (Mary) is entitled to 8/11ths of shares of Susan and Simeon Campbell's dower land purchased. Susan is yet quite a young and hearty woman She is mother of only one of the aforesaid children: James W. Dowdy. and her age will not exceed 30 years. Abner Smith and Jane, Wm Campbell and Sarah, Jas Campbell and Elizabeth, Banister Tally and Rebecca are not living in TN. William Dowdy and James W. Dowdy are residents of Perry and under age of 21.
