Dowdy of the County of Cumberland and State of Virginia do make
this my last will and testament. Item First: I desire that my
son George W. Dowdy with whom I and my wife live shall
have at my death and the death of my wife the houses and land
adjoining thereto on which I now reside, containing about 25
acres more or less to have and hold as long as the said George
W. Dowdy shall live and then to his heirs forever. Item Second: I also give to my son George
W. Dowdy 166 Acres of land known as "Rose Cottage"
to be cut off in a body just as my son George W. Dowdy desires.
I also give to my son George W. Dowdy all personal property consisting
of horses, cows, hogs, farming utensils of every kind, all household
and kitchen furniture of every kind. I also bind my son to take
care of me and my wife the balance of our days, in every respect
as necessary for my comfort and the comfort of my wife . . .
food, clothes, medicine, etc. I give the rest of my estate, consisting
of land only to be divided equally between my other children:
Susan Jane Meinhard, Edwin P. Dowdy, Robert S. Dowdy, Andrew
J. Dowdy. I ask that George W. Dowdy be Executor of my will.

Since execution of said will my son George w. Dowdy has purchased
the prospective interests of Susan J. Meinhard, Edwin P. Dowdy,
Robert S. Dowdy and Andrew J. Dowdy in the land given to them.
Now I deem it right that said son George W. Dowdy should have
the same and I do hereby revoke that portion of my will giving
land to Susan J. Meinhard, Edwin P. Dowdy, Robert S. Dowdy and
Andrew J. Dowdy and my son George W. Dowdy shall have my whole
estate -- Real and Personal of every kind. December 21, 1898

plaintiffs to set aside the order for binding them out, after
argument the same is overruled, and it is ordered that the said
plaintiffs return to the said Crenshaw and to stand bound by
the Indenture's binding to said Crenshaw and the court orders
that the said Crenshaw keep Albert the elder either at school
or the carpenter's trade until he become Twenty one years of
age.

God Amen the twenty fifth day of January one thousand eight hundred
and four. I JAMES DOWDY of the county of Cumberland being
sick and weak in body tho' of sound and perfect memory of mind
do make and ordain this to be my last will and testament in manner
and form following item. My will and desire is that all my just
debts be paid and those due me collected and got in. Item I lend
to my loving wife FRANCES DOWDY during her natural life
the land and plantation wheron I now live, together with all
my negroes (except one negro Girl named Mourning) with all my
stock of every kind (except one sorrel mare colt which I give
to my son JAMES DOWDY as a separate legasy) with all my
househodl of kitchen furniture and plantation utensils all of
which I lend to my said wife durin gher natural life. Item. My
will and desire is that my sister ELIZABETH DOWDY be maintained
as heretofore, out of my estate lent to my wife during the life
of my said sister, and my will is that my neice POLLY DOWDY
shall live where she now lives during her single state on my

that if my wife should die before my daughter POLLEY arrive
to the age of twelve year that my estate be kept together till
my said daughter arrive to that age. Item. My will and desire
is that the child my negro woman Fanny is now pregnat with, should
it be born alive be given to nephew JESSE DOWDY, which
said negro Fanny is now lend to my wife, also I give to my said
nephew JESSE DOWDY ten poinds to be raised out of the
crops made on the plantation and by the negroes lent to my wife,
all of which I give to him and his heirs forever. Item > I
give to my nephew THOMAS DOWDY the thirty seven dollars
I paid on his account to Jarratt Rison which I give to him and
his heirs for ever. Item. My desire is that at the death of my
wife my land lent to her be equally divided among my four sons
namely RICHARD, JAMES, JESSE, and THOMAS DOWDY upon my
sd. sons paying my four daughters namely ELIZABETH, SALLEY,
JANE AND POLLY DOWDY, also my neice PATSEY ARCHER DOWDY
twenty pounds each which I give to them and their heirs forever.
Item. My will is that my two sons JAMES and JESSE DOWDY
have two years schooling each and my son THOMAS DOWDY
have three years schooling. Item. My will and desire is that
all my negroes and their increase not before devised, together
with all my stock household and kitchen furniture and plantation

to them and their heirs forever. Item I constitute and appoint

Item. My will is that my two sons JAMES and JESSE DOWDY
have two years schooling each and my son THOMAS DOWDY
have three years schooling. Item. My will and desire is that
all my negroes and their increase not before devised, together
with all my stock household and kitchen furniture and plantation
utencils be equally divided among all my children which I give
to them and their heirs forever. Item I constitute and appoint
JESSE DOWDY and THOMAS DOWDY my hole and sole executors
to this my last will and testament ratafying and confirmin ghte
same in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal
this day and date above written

At a court held
for Cumberland County August 27th 1804. This last will and testament
was exhibited in court by the executors therein named and proved
by the witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded and on the
motion of JESSE DOWDY and THOMAS DOWDY who made oath according
to law certificate is granted to them for obtaining a probat
thereof in due form giving bond and security, whereon they with
Nelson Patteson and Peter Phillips entered into bond in the penalty
of two thousand five hundred dollars conditioned according to
law

Sen'r of the state Georgia to FRANCES DOWDY, RICHARD, JAMES,
JESSE, and THOMAS DOWDY legatees of JAMES DOWDY deceased
all of the county of Cumberland. (Note: This Richard Dowdy is
not in Georgia in 1812) for $1,292.50 land in the county of Cumberland
on the Davenport Road, containing 358 1/2 ares being a part of
the tract whereon Robert Smith formerly lived bounded by Stephen
Cook and Davenport Road
