1748 July 13. Elizabeth Dowdy was godparent with James Hix and Nathaniel Jones for the birth of William Hix, son of William and Mary Hix. Albemarle Parish Record.

1753 January 7. Lucy Dowdy daughter of Thomas Dowdy and wife Elizabeth born. Robert Parsons, Elinore Parsons, and Elizabeth Askins godparents. Albemarle Parish Register

1757 Sussex July Court. Thomas Dowdy appear'd in court and alledged agt. Ephraim Knight that he thought himself in fear o fhis life or of some bodily hurt to be don or procured to be don him by Ephraim whereupon divers witnesses were sworn and examined and mature deliberation thereupon had on consideration whereof it is ordered that the said Ephraim enter into recognizance for his good behaviour for one year from this day the said Ephraim in 50 and his security in 25 whereupon the said Ephraim with James Carter his security acknowledge themselves to be indebted to our soverign Lord the King the said Knight in the sum of fifty pounds and the said Carter in the sum of 25.

1758 Feb Court. Thomas Dowdy plt vs Ephraim Knight deft: in case. This day came the parties by their attornies and thereupon came also a jury, towit, Hen. Tatum, Charles Gee, John Bailey, Clement Hancock, Francis Gee, Frederick Green, robt Wynn, Lewis Brown, Burrell Green Jr, Benj Hunt, John Pennington, and Levy Gilliam who being elected...do say that the deft hath not performed the assumption in the declaration mentioned in manner and form as the plt threin agt him hath alledged and do assess the plts damages by occasion threof to eleven pounds fifteen shillings and four pence besides his costs. therefore it is consider'd that the plt recover agt the said deft his damages aforesaid in form afd. assessed and his costs by him in this behalf expended and th esaid deft. in mercy &c.

1760 24 Dec William Dowdy JR was Godfather for Howell Gilliam, son of John & Anne Gilliam. Other Godparents were Holman Saul Hally & Nancy Gilliam. This was taken from microfilm records. Typewritten records show this abstract as William "Dansey". A William Dancey does exist in numerous records in Sussex VA.

1790s Marriage of a George "Dowdy" and Sussannah Owen. Note, the website editor has reviewd tax and other land records for this period of time in Sussex Va and has concluded that this George "Dowdy" marriage record is in reality referring to a George DOWDEN. George Dowden appears consistently throughout this period of time with wife Sussannah. A Dowden family does exist in Sussex.
