[is this James Dowdy of Caroline?] [note: Joseph Berry may be the son of William Berry who died 1720s in King William VA m. Margaret Doughty. She was the daughter of Enoch Doughty who is sometimes referred to in abstracts as Enoch "Dowdy". Family from Essex/Rappahanoch VA and documented as "Doughty" in earlier generations.

The court hath rated the same at 12 shillings per cent and Wm Marsh, the ganishee appearing and being sworn is ordered to pay sd Waller one pound eighteen shillings and 9 pence together with costs of this suit of the money in his lands due to the said Dowdey [note: does Dowdey work for Marsh?]

Oct 1750 Court. Called for examination of Joseph Spenster alias Dowdy, a servant belonging to Charles Dick, gent. who is charged on suspicion of breaking open the storehouse of Fielding Lewis, gent and stealing thereat sundry pieces of gold and silver amounting to L100. Present his majesties justies John Waller, Jr, John Spotswood, Robt Jackson, Charles Dick, gentlemen.....As Joseph Spenster alias Dowdey being brought to th ebar, and the court having examined and heard the witnesses is of the opinion that he is guilty in such manner that he ought to be sent to the public jail in the city of Williamsburg in order for further trial before the court of Oyer and Terminer on the 2nd Tuesday in Dec next and that the sherriff remove him as soon as conveniently may be and deliver him to the public jail keeper.
