This Indenture made this 27 day of December in the year of our Lord 1827
between Sylvanus Walker of the county of Maury and State of Tennessee of the
one part and Gibson Dowdy of said County and State of Tennessee. Witnesseth
that for and in consideration of the Item of Four hundred and fifty dollars
in hand acknowledged hath bargained Sold and conveyed and by these presents
doth bargain sale and Convey unto the said Gibson Dowdy a certain tract or
parcel of land situated and being in the county of Maury and State of
Tennessee on the Waters of Flat Creek.
Beginning on a hickory and dogwood in the South boundary line of 4000 Acre
tract the ___ of Thomas Gillespie running thence South 46 poles to a hickory
and two small ashes thence East 20 poles to a hickory and white oak thence
South fifty five poles to a Walnut and ironwood thence East One hundred and
sixty poles to a Sugartree marked ___ . Thence North fifty three poles to a
hickory on Wall__ line thence West thirty two poles to a Cedar and ironwood
Thence North twenty four poles to a White Oak thence West twenty two poles
to a Walnut and Small hickory thence North 2 degrees East sixty Six poles to
a hickory thence North seventy poles to a Elm and Cedar in Thos Gillespie's
line thence West with his line forty three poles to a Spanish Oak in Said
line thence South eighty poles to a hickory and white oak thence West twenty
four poles to an ironwood and ash tree thence South forty four poles to a
Stake in the South boundary line of Thomas Gillespie's Said 4000 acre tract
thence West Seven poles to the Beginning containing one hundred Acres be the
same more or less to have and to hold the above described land and bargained
premises with all the appurtenances thereunto belonging to the only proper
use and behoof of him the said Gibson Dowdy his heirs and appears forever
and the said Sylvanus Walker doth hereby promise covenant and agree to and
with the said Gibson Dowdy his heirs and assigns that the said Sylvanus
Walker his heirs executors and administrators shall and will at all times
warrant and defend forever the above described land and premises to the said
Gibson Dowdy his heirs and assigns forever against the claim or claims of
all and every person or persons whatsoever whereby the same maybe affected
or encumbered contrary to the ___ extent and meaning of these presents - In
witness whereof the Said Sylvanus Walker hath here unto set his hand and
affixed his Seal the date above written - Signed Sealed and delivered in

1830 - Chancery Court Records. Samuel Bennett vs Benjamin Riddle. In 1830 Mary Moore and James Dowdy made depositions. Dowdy: Saw Alexander Oaks and Samuel Bennett meet and shake hands, after the usual salutations...Oaks said that Bennett was the same man that took the horse of Benjamin Riddle away from Madison Co. Alabama on the Limestone Road. (also contains deposition of Mary Moore and Alex Oaks.)
