[editor note: Howell DAWDY/DOWDY was apparently from the New Jersey "DAWDY" family. You find Howell Dawdy migrating to Virginia/North Carolina/South Carolina before he moves to Tennesssee. Supposedly, there are Revl War documents which outline his lineage and movements. There is a James DAWDY family of the same era in New Jersey which moved to Canada. 1809 - Howell DAwdy named by legislature to be on committee to select County Seat. Shelbyville was selected in May 1810
