[Deed Book 3, pgs. 60-61] Tulle WILLIAMS & Richd. SANDERSON to Joseph ODOWDY. July 6, 1737. I Tulle WILLIAMS of Perquimans prect and province afsd. for the sum of £40 current money of this province paid by Joseph ODOWDY of this prect. do for my self my heirs exec. and adms. as also for the heirs exec. and adms. of Wm. Richd. SANDERSON decd by virture of a power of attorney from him dated October 2, 1735 assigned transfered set over unto the said Joseph ODOWDY the within patent and tract of land therein contained with all the priviledges and appertenance there unto belonging unto him the said Joseph ODOWDY his heirs exec. adms. and assigns forever and ot no other use intent or purpose whatsoever in witness where I have here unto put my hand and seal. /s/ Richd. [Deed Book 3, pgs. 13-14] John SMITH to Samuel BAKER. Nov. 19, 1739. John SMITH Negro of the prect. of Currituck in the County Albemarle and in the prect. of North Carolina and Samuel BAKER of the same prect. and county and province a for said, for the sum of five pound in hand paid and secured to be paid. A tract of land containing one hundred acres more or less situate lying and being in the prect. of Currituck in the county and provence a for said do by these presents impower Richd. SMITH free Negroe to make over the said tract of land joying and binding on the North River swamp. Begining at a read oake corner tee and so runing an east course by line of marked trees to a pine a corner tree at the head line and from thence a south course along the head to a pine a corner tree and from thence a line of marked trees a west course to a pine a corner tree at the swamp side the a for said containing one hundred acres more or less. 10 day of Jan. 1739. /s/ Richd. [Deed Book 3, pgs. 12-13] John SMITH to Jacob LOUTS. Nov. 19, 1740. John SMITH free negro of the presinck of Currituck in the county of Albemarle and in the provience a for said of the one part, for the sum of five pounds Spanish to me in hand paid and secured to be paid by the Jacob LUTS the recipts where I do hereby acknowledge and impower my son Richd. SMITH and make him my attorney. A tract of land on the North River swamp begining at a pine going east by a line of marked trees to a pine at the head line and from thence a southerly courses to a white oake a corner tree along the head line and from that corner tree a westerly course by a line of marked trees to a white oake as a corner tree as a for said containing one hundred acres of land more or less. /s/ Richd. 1745 - Baum and another v. currituck Shooting Club 1887 - "Upon the trial the plaintiffs introduced a series of deeds with the will of one Joseph Baum, copies of whicha re set out as exhibits and are as follows: (1) From Joseph Gray and wife Mary made Oct 24 1801 to Thomas White, describing the land conveyed as "containing fifty acres lying on the said banks, to be laid off on the north end, of a deed given by William O. Dowdy to John Woodhouse, bearing date the 20 Feb 1745, to be as wide on the sound side as on the sea side,m so as to include the aforesaid fifty acres..." [see abstracts for 1819 and 1840 below] The Southeastern Reporter p 673.

I John SANDERSON of the county of Currituck and state of NC am held and firmly bound unto my brother by fathers side by name Benjamin SANDERSON son of Benjamin in the full and just sum of £150 speice to be paid unto the said Benjamin SANDERSON minor infant. The condition of the above obligation is such that whereas by a certain deed of gift or bargain of the nature there of my father Benjamin SANDERSON on who now at this time is supposed to be at the point of departing this life, did make over and convey to me the said above bound John SANDERSON a certain tract or parcel of and known by the afsd. Benjamin SANDERSONs manner plantation joining on Joseph ODOWDAY and Thos. HEATH on the line? extending out lines from the sound thence joining on the bank with MITCHELs and WHITEHALLs which said tract of land was given to the said John SANDERSON from the second marriage of his father and since said gift said father married a wife by which wife had the afsd. son Benjamin and his said father Benjamin being uneasy in his said sickness concerning the said afsd. gift prevailing of his said son John in the above forfit to make over and convey unto the said Benjamin SANDERSON, infant, fifty acres of the afsd. plantation on the back of the said plantation next to WHITEHALLs and MITCHELs in case he the said John SANDERSON holds the said plantation clear of all incumbrances whatever and should thence be no incumbrance on said land the said John is here by bound with the within forfit to make a right of fifty acres as within mentioned to him the said Benjamin SANDERSON infant when called on. /s/ John SANDERSON. Currituck Shooting Club 1887 - "A deed from Caleb Dowdy and his mother, Sarah, made in 1838, to the aforesaid testator [Jacob Baum] in his life-time, conveying their right, title, and claim "on the North banks between Whale's Head and the said Joseph Baum's beginning on the sea side, joining Willibra Dowdy's land; therein binding the said Dowdy's line to Currituck sound, nearly west course; thence, as the sound runs, nearly south to Elizabeth Dowdy's land; thence nearly east to the seaside; thence, as the sea beach, to the first station."

LINDSEY of Currituck. Three thousand dollars. A tract of land to the said Elizabeth L. by a deed of this date...Land...in Currituck County and bounded as follows, on the North by the lands of Willowby DOWDY, on the East by Currituck Sound and Strait Creek, on the South by the land belonging to the heirs of William COFFEE and the West by the main road binding to Poplar Branch and by McHORNEYs line, it being the same land devised to the said Elizabeth L. by her father Daniel LINDSEY. /s/ Wilson Reed, Elizabeth L. Reed. Elizabeth privately examined by Richmond M. Pearson, Judge of the Superior Courts of Law & Equity for the State of North Carolina. Currituck Shooting Club 1887 - "Upon the trial the plaintiffs introduced a series of deeds with the will of one Joseph Baum, copies of which are set out as exhibits and are as follows: [see abstracts for 1819 and 1745 above] (3) From Willoughby Dowdy to Samuel Cooper executed Jan 29 1840 designating the land as "situated on the banks, bounded as follows: On the north by Thomas Poyner's line; on the west by the bay; on the south by the lands formerly belonging to Thomas Dowdy; thence an east course to the sea; thence along the sea to the first station containing 50 acres...." Know all men by these presents that I Hezekiah W BEASLEY of Powells Point County of Currituck and State of North Carolina for and in consideration of the Sum of one hundred dollars to me paid by Samuel DUTCHER of the same county and State the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged Do bargain grant sell and convey unto the said Samuel DUTCHER all of a certain piece or parcel of land lying and being of Powells Point in Poplar Branch Township Currituck County. Bounded as follows, beginning at a sweet gum a corner tree between the land of William R JOHNSON decd and the lands of Sheppard OWENS decd thence a Southwardly course to a pine corner tree aforesaid The lands formerly called Samuel DOWDY line thence a northwestwardly with DOWDY's line the various courses of the line to the line formerly called Joseph D PERRY line to a corner post thence along Perry's line to the corner of Shepperd OWENS land thence a Southwardly course to the beginning, Sweet gum. Containing twenty acres more or less. To have and to hold the same to the said Samuel DUTCHER his heirs and assigns to his and their use forever, and the said Hezekiah W BEASLEY covenants with the said Samuel DUTCHER his heirs and assigns that I am lawfully seized in fee of the premises, that they are free from all incumbrances, that I have a good right to sell the same to the said Samuel DUTCHER his heirs and assigns, and that I will warrant and defend the same against the lawful claims and demands of all persons.
